Product Code: 130JC1525-pro

Daisy Wildflower Seed, common daisy, Bairn Wort, Ruisewort, eye-of-day is a member of the Compositae or Daisy family and comes from Europe, including the British Isles, and western Asia. It is very common in short meadowgrass, verges, grass paths and lawns throughout Britain, flowering almost all the year round. There are many cultivated forms and varieties, mostly used for edging borders and bedding purposes. In herbal medicine, it was formerly used in the treatment of catarrh, rheumatism, kidney disorders, wounds and bruises. The freely produced Bowers are a valuable source of nectar (food) for butterflies and other insects. The common name DAISY is derived from "day's-eye", a reference to its habit of opening and closing with the sun; the botanical name "Bellis" means pretty in latin.

Wildflower Site Preparation

The site should be weed free. Annual weeds should be controlled by mechanical means or by the use of contact based herbicide. Perennial weeds, for example docks thistle, nettles and couch grass can be dealt with using a translocated herbicide such as Round-Up. Cultivate to achieve a fine seed bed, sow seed mix and then roll to ensure firmness. The best results are obtained when there is good contact between the soil and the seeds.

Sowing Times

Sowing can best be achieved by mixing the seed with dry sand, dry sifted topsoil or sawdust and evenly broadcast. It is important that the seed is in contact with moisture in the soil so the seedbed should be lightly raked and then rolled.
