Common Bird's-Foot-Trefoil

Lotus corniculatus
Product Code: 130JP1128A
Bird's foot trefoil, butter and eggs, bacon and eggs, lady's slipper is a member of the Papilionaceae family, originating from Africa, Asia and Europe (including Britain). It is commonly found in pastures and meadows, on banks and in hedgerows throughout the British Isles. The common name of Bird's Foot derives from the resemblance of each cluster of elongated cylindrical seed pods to a bird's foot. It is a valuable fodder plant, and is frequently added to clover or grass seed mixtures. Nodules inhabited by nitrogen fixing bacteria are scattered over its roots - in this way the plant can make use of nitrogen in the air.
